Brixton Cottage
This Victorian Terrace in the vibrant heart of Brixton, London, had been previously decorated without care or proper consideration. Our brief involved a cosmetic transformation - excluding the flooring that had been replaced in the recent past - to create a sophisticated but relaxed interior befitting the busy lives of its’ new professional owners.
At the ground floor, we opened up the dark and unloved living room, introducing light and warmth through the use of natural heritage paints in pale tones. Bespoke shuttering added a layer of elegance to the original bay windows, whilst providing privacy from the street outside.
A sofa was reupholstered in tweed with an accent of ochre, whilst several new and older vintage pieces were procured. A chestnut leather “Mustache” Club Chair and Art Deco armchair in burnt orange velvet, together with considered flea market purchases, fulfilled the clients’ ‘elegant members’ club’ brief.
Upstairs, the principal bathroom was titivated. Repainted in a smoked pink, a more natural tonal pairing with the existing tiled floor, it served to provide a warm and atmospheric space. In the master bedroom, we made provision for storage in under-utilised corners of the room, as well as uncovering and restoring the characterful Victorian wooden floorboards.
